Counselling is a psychological process that aims to empower people to overcome major life crises, develop effective problem-solving strategies, and gain insights into their situation. There is a wide range of therapeutic approaches practiced within the counselling realm. Here at Ocean Bay Wellness, we utilize a holistic approach based on the tenets of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and empowerment. These transformative processes are based in a collaborative counsellor-client relationship that aligns with the client’s individual values, beliefs, and self-determination. Our goal is to focus on the inherent strengths of clients to empower them to make real change in their lives.
First and foremost, a safe and non-judgemental space is created where you can feel comfortable to share vulnerably and authentically. The counsellor will then engage in creating mutually agreed upon terms with you outlining your expectations of the session as well as limits to confidentiality. The scope of practice will depend on the number of sessions you wish to have and the individual challenges you may be facing. Together, we work it out as a team. Counselling sessions are 60 minutes in length and include a quick debrief for the last 10 minutes of the session. During this period, the counsellor will create a toolkit with strategies for you to practice at home. This is also the time for you to share feedback and your hopes moving forward. We offer both in-person counselling, over the phone, or through Zoom.
